G'day,

OK... I assume that you have been offered a place in CQU at Rockhampton campus.

CQU is one of public university in Australia, and therefore you can be assured that the courses there have been checked for the quality of material and teaching support before offered to overseas students. In regards to qualification and recognition, it is the same as any other uni in Australia.

As the answerer before me mentioned, Rockhampton is a small town, and this can be both good and not good for international student.
It is good because:
1. It means that you will get the support that you need to settle in and when faced with study difficulty
2. Your English will improve much quickly, since there are not many international students there compare with big cities universities. In regards to the number of international student, the staff in the international office will be able to help you. Follow the link below to e-mail them.
3. Small international student population means that everyone will know all and will be able to support each other as well.

It is not very good because:
1. In small town, you may get bored quickly (especially if you are originally come from big cities), lonely and homesick.

These information are gathered from my wife's experience. She used to be an international student in one of small town university in New South Wales. Her overall experience was: Terrific. But again... different ppl may have different expectation and experience.

Hope this helps. E-mail me if you have any more queries. Good luck with your study and welcome to Australia.

Are you talking about Central Queensland University? Well I never there went but my boyfriend did, he was at the Rockhampton campus doing engineering. Ok so the environment in Rockhampton (Rocky for short) is bloody hot, dry and humid. It is a scorcher up there, air con is essential. It is a meduim sized country town, alot of beef cattle farms up there. the campus environment reflects the town, its hot and country. Accomodation, you can stay on campus or get your own place in town or live in uni dorms, they are like town houses there's a pool, only uni student live there, its a good place to meet people. I dont know about the study environment, it depends on you if you are serious about it you will find people the same, or if you want to party a lot you will find those people too. The rocky campus is big in size but not student population that is compared with the city universities in Brisbane.
