The internal clock is faster but that doesn't mean it processes data more efficiently.
Think of it this way .... you have 5000 pizzas to deliver.
You can use a Honda Civic that does 100mph or a flatbed truck that does 50mph.
Which one will do the job quicker ?
See my point.
Too many people confuse clock speed with overall performance.
It depends on the CPUs registers & how much data they can process in each clock cycle.
Go here to see a side by side comparison of these 2 processors:

although pentium 4 processors have higher clock speeds(3.0ghz and above) amd processors can deliver pound for pound the same performance as the p4,s
my main p.c has a pentium 4 (3.2ghz) but my 2nd p.c has a athlon 3200+ processor which has a clock speed of around 2ghz and its seems just as fast if not faster than the p4
this is because amd use a different nomenclature than intel, meaning amd processors rated at 2ghz can do as many calculations as a intel pentium 4 rated at 3.2ghz
this is as much as i have ever understood about intel and a.m.d processors, but in my opinion a.m.d processors are a clear winner, just look how many manufacturers use them in their p.c,s...enough said!
i hope this helped
good luck

Its a pentium 4 3.2GHz processor I am using at the moment, but the next PC I biuld for myself will have to be the Pentium D 3.4GHz which is dual core so, 6.8GHz if you count it like that, yeah I know its not exactly like that, but seams to be everyones interpretation of dual core.
Any way I did read that you get alittle more for your money with AMD and I certainly see plent of them being sold. Though I have to admit, Intel is leading the race, with processors, especially with there core 2 duo processors.
So I tend to stick to them.

you will desire to grant greater specifics. There are like 4 kinds of AMD Athlon sixty 4 3200s and approximately 6 different lines of P4s. although, interior the broadest case, the only element this is often genuine is that for the comparable quantity of money (fee you pay), the AMD chip is going to outperform any Intel chip this is a P4 or older. it is via fact AMD contraptions their expenses to undercut Intel chips via a undeniable share. that's no longer genuine for the present twin center processors, although.

P4 is but make sure if buying that he other components front bus virtual memory etc etc are high. Best to weight though till the dual core Pentium chips dip in price and get one of them.

yeah P4 is more powerful than Amd 64x.
I also think they make P4 more powerful because it is most popular.
