they look like small white hairs no longer than a mm that wiggle around in the water. i had used the aquarium as a sick tank n the last fish didn't eat his food. i have done a water change and gravel cleaning will the fish that are in there now be ok (my boyfriend came home with fish as a surprise) and surprise they are too aggressive to put in any of my community tanks so there they are. please help. tina

Definitely sounds like nematodes but don't worry they don't harm your fish. Cut down the amount of feed you give your fish and clean your gravel a bit more than usual and they should die off. your fish will probably eat any that swim about. There is another type of worm it could be called Planaria they are just like nematodes except a little fatter, they are also harmless.

That's more than likely nematoads. They shouldn't thrive if you don't overfeed and if you clean the gravel enough. They won't necessarily harm the fish, but they can be a bother to the fish if they land on them. The fish may scrape against decor to get the little buggers off and then the fish would hurt themselves.

sounds like maggots to me (baby flies and no it doesn't necessarily mean a gross environment, just that there was a fly around to lay eggs) and maybe the aggressive fishies will eat them!!!
