okay i've never used a fan assisted oven before always had a gas one, but i've moved into this house and theres a built in cooker and a fan assisted oven, which i have no instructions for!
i can turn it one and the red led light comes on saying that its on, then sometimes even after i turn the dial knob back to "off" the fan stays on and the led light goes off, is this normal??? is it just heating up or is it broke?

Some fan ovens purge the oven space after switch off otherwise they heat up as the element though off is still hot. Others have the fan running as soon as the dial is put to on. Sounds OK but remember to cook at 20 degrees C lower than the recipe says for a conventional oven.

I would say nothing is wrong. It sounds as if the fan is used to move the air inside the oven as long as the temperature is high enough rather than linked to the on/off temperature controller. Other wise it would turn off whenever the thermostat turned the heating element off, which would interrupt the convection cycle of you oven.

Don't be alarmed, I have found it necessary to get used to a new oven every time I've moved (quite often being in the military) and after some experimentation, have had success (being a relative term based upon my culinary skills - low to nonexistent, frozen pizza being my claim to fame). Most of them do the same thing, cook food, with slightly different approaches.

I've got a fan assisted oven but when I switch it off the fan stops as well. Maybe yours is meant to carry on to cool it down quicker? How long does it run for after you've switched it off? I'd phone an electrical supply shop, they should be able to tell you if it's doing what it should.

By the way, I prefer to reduce the temperature rather than the time when cooking as I know it's had long enough time to cook properly then, other wise they can just burn without cooking properly.
If something should be cooked at 220 C I would turn it to 200C, or if it should be 190C I'd do it at 180 or even 170C. I cook fish at 160C (unfrozen, fresh fish)
Oh, and the rings take about 5 minutes to heat up too! So get into the habit of turning them on long before you actually require it!!

Happy cooking!

I have a fan assisted oven and yes the fan stays on for approx 15 minutes a after I have switched the oven off to cool it down.

Just a thought, but if you look for the make and model of the oven - go to a homeware store who sell the same make, they should be able to give you a telephone number for customer services, you may be able to request a copy manual so that you can work the oven properly.

i have a fan assisted oven and if i turn the dial then the oven does not come on but an orange light comes on, i have to set the timer before it will come on. this way i can't burn food because if the timer is set to 30 minutes then the oven will automatically turn itself off.

oh, and the fan will keep running for about 10 mins after you switch the oven off, this is just to cool it down..

its just running to cool the oven down it usually a seperate fan than the one at the back of the oven it usually blows cool air out the top of the door. Always remember to allow less time than a normal oven for cooking times!!

Yes this is perfectly normal, it's just the oven cooling down. I was in the same boat as you when me and my partner moved into our new place. I'd been used to a gas oven and this new place has a fan oven but i find it cooks food abit quicker and its abit easier to use!
