Okay. I have a one-gallon fish bowl with a black moor, a mini white koi, and a red molly.

1. Do goldfish prefer pellets or flakes?
2. I need to transport them to school on Monday (they're going to live in my classroom) and I need the best way to do so without murdering them all.

Thanks!

First things first, if you are going to keep all these fish you need a much larger TANK at least 10 gallons, There is no such thing as a mini Koi, it was just small when you got it.

Since these are to be class pets I suggest making it a class project to set up an aquarium.

You can get the entire setup as a kit at most pet store's along with some very good books on setup and maintenance of an aquarium.

Goldfish will eat what ever you give them as far as prepaired foods go, but they love raw vegetables as well, you can get a clip at the pet store to hold the slices or leaves.

If you are in a cold weather area i suggest putting the fish in a CLEAN WELL RINSED Tupperware container with a good fitting lid, and wrapping that in a thick towel while they are on the move.

Good Luck
Eric.

It doesn't matter what sort of food they prefer, they won't live long enough to enjoy it. A one gallon tank is not large enough for any one of those poor doomed animals. Feeding them anything will only contribute to the fouling of the water and their deaths by ammonia poisoning.-----Please,do your homework before buying fish that will most certainly die a miserable death, one must consider the adult size of the fish that they intend to keep,as well as their water and temperature requirements. Also find out about the Nitrogen cycle, understanding this will save the lives of many fish in the future. The food requirement of the Blackmoor and the Koi can be met with either type of food you mention, but not the Mollie, which will probably be the first to die.------- Also,if you made your intentions clear to the person that sold the fish, then they are unscrupulous or just ignorant and should be avoided. I'm afraid your students are not going to learn the lessons that you hope they will.-------A thought, try to locate an Aquarium Society or Fish Club,or an experienced hobbyist to help in making this a successful learning event instead of a disappointment.--------A plethora of good luck to you and your students and fish.---------PeeTee

goldfish pellets are easier to manage and make less waste. goldfish prefer anything they can get in their mouths.

while your fish are stuck in a one gallon bowl you should get another one gallon bowl and transfer them back and forth daily.

to transport them put them in plastic food containers in an insulated lunch bag. 1 fish per container.

please get your new kids a 30 gallon tank at school. it will make your classroom happier if the fish acutally live. i hope your red molly isn't one of the vat dyed guys -- they usually die fast anyway.

I wish teachers would teach students how to properly care for animals. I hope you give the a good lesson on how they died. A 125 gallon tank isn't enough to house a full grown koi. In a 1 gallon they will produce so much ammonia they will die in a few days.
