You can buy leather dye from shoe stores and probably in some large department stores.

My girlfriend dyed a pair of boots - worked well, can't tell they weren't originally black.

There is a great leather dye for this project. There are many leather dyes on the market with a wide range of prices. I think the best dye is Fiebings. It comes in two types. One is waterbased. The other is much stronger and is a true, VERY STRONG dye. I am not sure exactly what it is called. Just make sure it is not the waterbased.
It will dye your leather beautifully. It will also dye your hands, your clothes, your table and anything it touches. Be sure and wear good rubber gloves and have a substantial protective cover to work on. Heavy plastic or many, many layers of newspaper or inside a plastic container or something similar. If you sit the lid down on any surface, you will have a ring for life where you sat it. If it gets on your skin, you are looking at about a week or so of a new skin tone. It is great stuff.....but use it with care and you will be pleased. One of the best things about it is, it is really inexpensive, about $5.00 is normal. You can find it in the leather sections of most craft stores. Sometimes you can find it in upscale shoe stores that do repair or orthotics. If you can find a shoe repair shop or a cobbler's they usually have a better variety and a lower price. They are just about extinct though, no one hardly has shoes repaired anymore.
It will take probably three coats to get your desired depth of black. Be sure to let it dry between coats. The bottles come with a dauber to apply the dye. Use it, it works great. Let it dry out. It looks ruined but comes back when you dip it in the dye again. Try to keep the dye only on the outside surfaces. When you are finished with the coats of dye, buff very well with a soft shoe brush.
VERY IMPORTANT: Apply two or three coats of neutral shoe wax to all leather surfaces. This will keep the dye from getting on your feet, rubbing off on pants if applicable, protect from scuffs and make the appearance more professional and shiny.
ALSO VERY IMPORTANT!!! The bottles will explode if left in a hot car in the summer. A bad deal in oh so many ways. All you can imagine and more. Not to mention the smell is noxious!!! A mistake I will only make once....I hope.
Hope this helps.

Have a professional (shoe repair shop) do it for you. It's better for them to do it rather than you do it and have the black rub off on your feet.
