I have been offered a job which is very near to my house and with shorter working hours but $300 lesser than my current pay. My current workplace is very far away & I am tired travelling 2hrs plus everyday. I must say that I have good colleagues & a very caring immediate boss. They have been persuading me to stay on & I know they are very sad for I have been there for almost 20years. Should I accept the new offer or stay on?

You are a bit vague in your question with the pay difference, is this $300 less per week or month or quarter?
The decision you have to make is if you will be happier with a change or not, at this point in your life.
You have obviously been happy with your current job, since you have stayed on for nearly twenty years; which does not happen very often in this day and age. It has been a big bonus for you that you have good colleagues and a caring immediate boss. Those are positives that would be difficult to give up.
The major drawback to this job is the long commute, I can empathize with that, in a been there and done that way. I made the decision to leave a job that I loved, with great co-workers and bosses about four years ago. I absolutely had grown to detest the commute and the stress that it was adding to my life.
I decided that since I wasn't getting any younger, it was time to make a break for it, work for myself and continue on with my education. It is a total joy now that I can work when I choose to and study when I choose to and take time off on my own schedule. It took me decades to get to this point; but I am very glad that I did.
I finally made up my mind about the changes when I first sat down and figured out what I needed to earn to live a good life and keep the bills paid. Then I sat with sheets of paper and wrote out the columns of pros and cons about each choice; and really looked at the options in black and white.
The older I get, the more I have realized that change can be a good thing, and new challenges can really open up your mind to great things. I was so stressed, from the long commute I was fighting high blood pressure and other health problems because of it. I am healthier and happier now than I have been in the past decade; and I am totally blessed that I made the changes.
If you can live comfortably on less money; and the commute is wearing you down, take the chance for change. The second sentence of your question really brings everything back to basics, your current workplace is very far away and you are tired traveling two hours plus everyday. Do you want to be traveling that same distance in five or ten or fifteen more years?
Sometimes we have to listen to our inner voice, which you can call your conscious, or God or your higher power; whatever you prefer. When we listen to this voice, we may get wonderful guidance. I wish you will, and hope that you can make the correct choice for your life. Have a good day.

You've stayed 20 years, why would you change now?
I can't imagine a 'choice' decision that would change your entire life. Are you feeling physically well? Is there anything else going on in your life, sure does not sound like it's the job factor.
give it 'alot' of thought!
I'd even consider relocating to a different house closer to the old job, is that a possibility?
good luck to you.

Although this new job is offering you $300 less than your present job, take a minute to calculate how much money you spend on fuel in a two week period. Is that amount comprable to $300? I hope this helps put things in perspective.

Well, if the drive in bothers u that much, then maybe you should take the new job. But the old job sounds really nice, even if it is far away. I think you should stay, but it's if u really want to.

i agree with alroka, you should stay put and move closer ,to shorten the commute.A new job sounds like a new pair of shoes, shiny and smells sweet, but theres always a draw back like the pay reduction.Don't be sucked in by the shinny and new, stick with your established and better paying job.Until something comes along that pays what your worth.never fall backward.
