I don't know what there last name was, but honestly the name of the one Barney was always argueing with over a girl was Earnest T. Bass. They were both courting the same girl from the family you are talking about. Denver Pyle played the head of the family, and later played Jack on Grizzley Adams and Uncle Jessie on the Dukes of Hazzard.

the darling family. their real name is dillard, the bass player's name is mitch jayne, they are from salem, missouri. the reason I know this is I was born and raised there.
