Usually you need to have passed the theory test first, although there are exemptions from this.

Most people take lessons with an approved driving instructor (ADI) and when you are ready for the test, they will give you the phone number of the driving test booking line. You can also book online as well - http://www.dsa.gov.uk. The current fee is £48.50. It's best to use an instructors car as these are usually already fitted with dual controls and the correct mirrors, plates etc. If you use a private car, then it is up to you to make sure that it has the necessary extra mirror for the examiner to use and that it has the necessary L-plates fitted. If it isn't up to standard then you can forfeit both the test and the fee.

You also need to take your driving licence with you obviously. And also your theory test certificate (if applicable) and if your driving licence is not a photocard version, you'll also need photographic ID, such as a passport.

well you should purchase a provisional license and start learning and then arrange a theory test as you can't take a practical test without passing your theory test and hazard perception test then after you have passed you will get a code and then you will b able to arrange your practical test. Then after that get a car and get insured and then your ready to go
