Very short sighted of you. I am part English and part Italian,,,so how do you define me? If any person chooses his or her heritage as Black...they are black.

It goes back to racism. In many of the states in the South, if you had ONE great grandparent who was Black, that made you Black. (1 out of 8)... but the catcher is this. What if the great grandparent was Black only because THEY had one great grandparent who was Black? That would make you 1/64th Black by inheritance and you would still be called Black even if you looked white.

On the flip side, when they had terms to describe mixed race backgrounds, the terms were also racist. Mulatto, Breed, Half-Breed, half-caste, half-blood, etc.

There is just no easy way to deal with descriptions of people based upon their "race" if you are going to keep bringing it up.

Obama should be described as an up-and-coming politician with a good chance at the Presidency, intelligent and articulate, with good people skills. The fact he has one really good suntan should not even be mentioned.

Personally, I think the Democrats are biting off more than they can chew with Obama. Barack Obama is too inexperienced and new as a Senator, and that will hurt him a lot. Secondly, he is Black, and that will cost him the Republican vote. America isn't ready yet.
Hilary, even though she is female, has a LOT more experience. Also, "Clinton" is a recognizable name.
Obama, on the other hand, should stick around a while, and consider running in 2012 as a VP. People like this guy. But we won't get a Black president until we get a Black VP. In addition, we -probably- won't get a female president until we get a female VP.

Hmmm, let's do the math....

In 1961-Barack was born- 50% white + 50% black = 100% black

In 2007-Barack as a candidate for presidency of the United States of America, he was born - 50% white + 50% black
still = 100% black

Meaning: Mr. Obama's ability to effectively lead this country would
be based on the same ignorant premise (viewed by some) that has tainted this country for over 100yrs. and still counting...

In reference to if you have one drop of black blood flowing through your veins, as a black man or woman you lack intelligence and capability not to mention worthiness,
to dream to hold such a position. (Oh, say can you see?)......

I do question this:
Who out of the other Presidential candidates are being placed under a micro-scope, dissected and searched for their racial synthesis???.......

As for the list of talented African Americans that are listed there,
I can say with out a doubt, past, present or future... African Americans, have indeed shined like polished brass, in spite of obstacles and boundaries, of mixed decent or not..... That is the beauty of my people...

So my answer to the initial question is...
Barack Obama "in your own words" has a good chance since he is not 100% "my word".... white.....

So what are you trying to say here????

Black people who are 100% black are inferior to people who are of mixed race heritage?? Is that what you think!!??

OK Then explain how those guys from Kenya, who have had nothing but black ancestors for all of eternity can run farther and faster than anyone else on the planet ever?

You sound like an incredibly misguided bigot! Get your facts together before you make outrageous and inflammatory claims such as this!

No, it doesn't make sense. It's not as if blacks who have some white ancestry ever had it significantly easier in this country. It's not as if they would have suffered from any less racism. If Obama has a good chance, it's because he's educated, articulate, charismatic, and a unifier instead of a divider. Unlike you.

{Why isn't this question in elections?}

In terms of the law - no; no advantage.

In terms of ethics - a community needs all of its people to feel justly treated to be fair. It's very important that as many people as possible don't believe that a multiracial person is less valuable than someone of a single race (and of one particular race), or that a multiracial person whose make-up includes one particular race, is better than those without it.

Obama has my trust, respect and confidence!!! I believe he is the MAN for the Job!!! He will be an awesome leader for America and it's people!!! The man's color has nothing whatsoever to do with becoming President some may look at it differently , but as for me I disagree!!!

those ppl cited above worked their butts off to get to where they got! If he wins he won because he's charismatic, articulate, and really he's a fresh face! He's new as a Senator but he's not new to the political field...we'll see when primaries roll around!

2007-02-11 01:38:51 · answer #9 · answered by boricua_lilly 3 · 0 0

well he doesn't have ancestors that were held in slavery, like sharpton, jackson, rice.. that is going to be tough to overcome if you ask me.
not to mention his total lack of executive and legislative experience.

so no , he doesn't have a good chance at all, its way to early..

by the time the primaries roll around he'll have been shredded to bits

also remember, those people you cited above, they worked hard to get to their accomplishments, AND they didn't get it on their first shot.
