When ever you have a concern about your car it is always a could idea to check them out. To check the brakes should not be very difficult simple remove the tire and you can see the wear on the rotor and pads. If based upon a visual inspection they need to be replaced then replace them. If in doudt have a mechanic check them. The pedal play also has to do with the hydraulic system of the brakes so have when your mechanic checks the brakes he should check your brake fluid and brake hydraulic system.
I am a firm believer in having good brakes, a life may depend upon it.

Best of luck.

I wanted to say, "Ya betcha!" How ever I would have the fluid checked in the master cylinder and then I would have the system checked for a break in a line also leaking seals. This car is only three years old and shouldn't need brakes yet, but even so I would have a mechanic check the pads and rotors just to be sure, But do I think that your brakes are worn? Sure, but as in worn out? No.

The brakes on any vehicle should be checked at least once a year --- no matter how little it is used--- there are simply too many things that can go wrong with them with use and there is FAR too much in the way of safety levered against this one item !! If they go out for any reason -- it could all be over for you and / or others in less than a second of time !! So, YES, you are considerably overdue for a complete brake inspection !!!

First of all, check the brake fluid level, although you will probably have a warnining light come on if it's low.

If the fluid hasn't been changed before I would suggest you change this first, as it's relatively cheap, any garage will be able to do this. Fresh fluid can change pedal feel quite significantly.

Whilst the wheels are off when bleeding the brakes, inspect the disks and pads for normal wear either yourself or have your mechanic do it.

yes, have them checked, i had that once, and it was a worn brake rotor (i think thats what they called it), the brakes really should be checked every year, that can also happen if the brake fluid is low, or a leak in the brake line

have you checked the BRAKE FLUID level?...
with only 34K on the car, the brakes should be like new...unless you ride the pedal all the time.
start with the fluid...and take it from there..
good luck
