Hey,
I want to update my graphics card as i cant play some games which require pixel shaders and don't get good framrates on some games.

However i have a pretty old processor:

Amd athlon xp, 1.25Ghz, x12.5, 1.5volts

Nvidia GeForce fx 5200, 128mb, agp 8x

I doubt i can have pci-e cards,
so is it worth upgrading my graphics card or not?

I've found this: http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=15217&GroupID=331

but obviously i dont want to buy it if it doesnt make a noticable difference.

Thanks,
Luke.

In the long run it would be cheaper to buy a new pc or build a new pc. You will be chasing your tail on AGP cards at this point. You could buy a new $300 dollar agp card and that would be great...but to run any newer games you will need a full pc upgrade and you would have just spent $300 on an agp video card when you new pc would use pci-e

I would save the money and buy a new computer or build your own and get a high-end card like the GeForce 7000 or 8000 series. With your current set-up, you will not see a great peformance increase even with a new video card since your processor would be the performance bottleneck.

You've said that, your processor is old one, if finance supports you, better buy a new PC.In your old old processor, buying new graphics card will not change the performance much. As you're a gamer, better buy a new one. Slow processor with 128mb RAM will not support more games.
After buying graphics card for this, you may have to change your RAM. So, buy new PC as a whole.

Not that much of a difference .... but a noticeable one nonetheless.
It's a lot of money to invest in older technology.
I feel that you would end up regretting it.

On the other hand, consider how much longer you will be using that PC ... over 1 year it's only one pound per week. Over 6 months 2 pounds per week to better enjoy your games.

Buy it where they offer a good return policy & judge for yourself.

yes it will make a slight difference, but would be better if you brought a new computer with a high graphics card.
