From a personal perspective - not in the slightest. Provided it makes and receives calls that's all I'm bothered about.

Overall I guess it does given the number of designs, customisations, covers etc that are available.

People are always willing to buy what's marketed as trendy and sleek. It's why the iPod sells so well, and why other products, like cellphones with mp3 playing capabilities, have an iPod-like interface for controlling their music.

For me, it's important to get a phone that mixes functionality with looks, but I only care about what looks nice to me, not what's popular.

It does. Thats why we reserve a high priority for the marketing concept world-wide. Customer satisfaction, is basically based on customer orientation, it could be debatable.

For instance, why do you think mobile phones are of different shapes i.e. block, clamshell; mobile phones of different prices i.e. low range, mid range and high range. These are all based on the customer's needs and likes (imaginations).
