hey first guy, NOT quite right, EVERYBODY THAT knows hockey sees that he's the problem.

now, as for the Q, how else can bettman screw up the nhl.....
1) stay in it
2) make any decision
3) pretend he's a big man
4) maybe design some type of colored-gas injection into the puck, so it will make a REAL colored comet tail on the actual ice, so southern americans attending the game, won't wonder why it's missing
5) wake up any morning
6) - 1200) continue as president

i wish he would just find a 'new' sport to screw up and quietly leave hockey. !!!!

The Capo>>>>scoring is down from least year yes 2005-06 season but its way higher then before the lookout. just remember that the NHL was 3rd on the list in the late 80's early 90's in North American sports behind baseball and American football. then Bettman came around then the NHL was on strike in his first full season as Commish and then the league expanded way to fast and now the NHL 15 years later is in the bottom in the North American sports. its still currently the 2nd most played sport around the world. if we can get rid of some teams that clearly don't deserve a team and get a really good TV contract in the US something like we have here in Canada on CBC (HNIC) or TSN and Sports Net we have hockey with great commentators almost every night of the week, then the NHL will start to move up the ladder.

fightings..>>>>>you say Bettman wasnt given a good product, well did you know that hockey had better ratings and way more attandence then the NBA at the time then once Gary took over thats when the league fell apart. the NHL was on the rise before he came over then it went on strike his first full season then the league crashed.

For starters, he can continue with his opinion that there is nothing wrong with the game of hockey. Then he can find a t.v deal with an even more obscure channel to showcase the game. Then he could find a way to keep the all star game on weekdays instead of weekends. It would be easier to allow all teams to use the nuetral zone trap again, not just the Devils and the Wild. We all love watching those games that involve hooking and holding all over the ice. Maybe he could lead expansion to other non caring markets. As long as it's in the U.S, it will be worth it, right? Then he can ban fighting altogether, further alienating the fans. Add a 24-second shot clock too. You don't get a shot in those 24 seconds, your team must relocate to Europe. Screw Gary Bettman.

Well, he's now talking about playing games in London and all over the world. Isn't that stupid? Players are going to have jet lag by the time they hit the ice. It's supposed to attract countries from overseas to become interested in the NHL and want to get an NHL team. Most of the players in the world suck, outside of the Russians, so what's the point. Woo hoo, more viewers for these games, whoopie. It just seems like such a terrible idea to me.

GO SABRES!!!!
FIRE BETTMAN!!!!

how can he screw the NHL up even more? here's how

1. Keeping the current unbalanced schedule
2. Moving more teams out of Canada and into some of the non-traditional U.S. markets
3. Expansion
4. Making the nets bigger
5. Keeping the instigator rule
6. Allowing the Penguins to leave Pittsburgh

Being NHL commissioner is a tough job, but I think his biggest mistake was overexpansion and allowing teams to leave Canada. During his reign, six cities gained an NHL team. While Denver and Minnesota were success stories, the other four---Columbus, Nashville, Atlanta, and Phoenix, were disasters.

Now I don't wish the worst on him, but it's time for him to admit his mistakes and either take corrective action or step down from his post.

We gotta be honest here NHL Commissioner is a tough job. They expanded way too much, too fast going all the way back to their scuffle with the WHA. Why they put a team in Atlanta either time is beyond me. Bettman is terrible but he was not given the greatest product when he took over. Hockey is not a sport for the casual fan. It is a love and way of life, but there aren't enough of us here in the U.S. to sustain all these teams. A true hockey fan loves to watch a high school game just as much if not more than watch a NHL game. Bettman and his team need to figure out to tap into that loyalty and love of the game.

-He needs to fix the f'd up schedule.
-Leave the damn nets the right size. More scoring isn't likely to bring any real fans anyway.
-Changing the nets will certainly lose many of the tried and true traditional fans.
-I don't have the answers on how, but they need get the NHL players out there in the public more. They are they most honest, tell it like it is players in all of sports. Maybe they need to have mandatory fashion shows like the Chiefs had in Slapshot.
-He needs to find a way to keep the Penguins in Pittsburgh.
-He needs to find a way for the games to be more affordable for the new fan. Too many people who go to their first game can't believe the price.
-Wouldn't hurt to merge some teams like they with the North Stars and the Barons. The league should have 24 teams max.

If he get dumped I wouldn't want to be the person coming in after him.

Eventually the nets will be the size of soccer nets, their will be no goaltenders and teams will play in front of empty stadiums. Bettman wants scoring to be up to try and get more people interested in hockey, but its not and scoring is actually down from the last year before the lockout. Bettman needs to change the NHL back to the way it used to be.

The NHL should have a culling. Why are there teams in Nashsville, Long Island, St. Louis. Have tou seen the attendance numbers. Even New Jersey.
Before new teams come on board they need to get rid of a few.

Bettman has screwed up so badly, and out of fear that he is not being blamed enough for his actions I have come to blame him for anything that goes wrong in my life. This is my attempt at keeping the balance. It always works too.

"Why is Baseball your favorite professional sport?"
"Gary Bettman. See in baseball after the 10th inning each team doesn't pick their best pitcher and 5 best hitters and see who can hit the most home runs to decide the game."

"Why weren't you excited when I told you about the new baby?"
"Gary Bettman. I was so busy listening to my XM (the lone place to find MOST games in one place) that I didn't even hear you."

"Why did you hit that guy in the face and get thrown out of the bar?"
"Gary Bettman. In declaring that America didn't care enough about the NHL to miss a season... and the dudes at the bar want the tv's on ESPN... "

I mean clearly it goes on and on...

I think we should move undeserving teams to cities that would support hockey... Wisconsin has the Milwaukee Admirals in the AHL and the Wisconsin Badgers (out of Madison) hockey is well supported in Wisconsin and I would love to see a NHL team here. Maine and possibly Montana (Billings any one?) Omaha, Nebraska, Des Moines, Iowa. I believe would be ecstatic to see an NHL team.
