Does this effect the taste of the drinks you put in the cups? If not I would really not worry about it. If so, then there are some things you can try.
I'm going to assume that you do not have shelf paper, this could help reduce this problem. Try cleaning your cupboards more often. This may help. Also, as others have said, try putting a box of baking soda in with the glasses.

I can tell you a trick I used. Go out and find you a stainless steel cooling rack and when you put your glasses in the cupboard put them on the rack which will let air circulate which in turns prevents the chemical preservatives in the wood from leeching out when introduced to a damp sealed environment (glasses upside down). If the rack is too big you can cut it down with a hacksaw which is easy to do. Also one more bit of information glass is a liquid I know it sounds funny but it really is, so this is another reason it will take on the smell it absorbs moisture. Hope this helps.

I would use an antibacterial kitchen spray cleaner like Lysol. Take everything out, clean, then try leaving the cupboard doors open to air out all day or overnight. Rubbermaid makes a plastic shelf liner on a roll that doesn't stick permanently. I lay it down dry on the bottom of my cabinets and drawers. You can moisten it a little to hold it in place on the corners, if necessary. Good luck!

Living in older buildings most of my life, I found that most of the time there was either a water leak and/or rodents (behind and/or above) the cabinets. I would report the issue to the rental management.
I know that now-a-days there is great concern about exposure to black mold and rodent fecal matter causing many illnesses and/or death.
