sports rated injection,
u have a single point injection system which has one fuel injector plus a multipoint injection system called a fuel rail which has 4 injectors this system was used on all sri's in every model but it also gets used in majority of 1.4 n upward engine sizes therefore the sri more goes for the trim range within the vehicle like recaro style half racing bucket seats, elec windows etc

It stands for,; Sports Rated Injected. The model before the Vectra was the Cavalier. This also had an SRI,as did the Astra. They both had a SR.the difference between the two was SR was a 1600cc(non injected),1800 & 2000 were injected. These were sportier than the standard cars, hence the initials stand for,Sports Rated(SR) and Sports Rated Injected.(SRI)

it does actually designate the rated horse power of the engine. there are also 120, 150 and 170 BHP models in the Vectra range.I used to have a 170 sri a few years ago. a good car, not bad on juice if i kept below 3000 rpm, but well thirsty when driven hard. the size of the engine has very little bearing on the power output these days. a mazda rx8, for example, has a phenomenal power output for a 1300 cc engine, and can easily be tuned to produce well in excess of 300 bhp at minimal cost.

Apart from "i" for injection, and "d" for either direct or diesel, most letters used for car versions don't necessarily stand for anything - they are just sequences of letters used to identify the different trim levels in a car's range.
However, GM Europe have used the the "SR" tag for many years. In the 1970s Opel built an Ascona S/R. It is possible that there was a meaning for those letters, especially given the slash between them. You'll have to research 1970s Opel history to be sure. Vauxhall first used the SR tag on the 1981 Cavalier, copying the tag from the (identical) Opel Ascona SR, which no longer included the slash in its tag.

The SR doesn't stand for anything just meant to sound sporty.
