I have 5 cories, 2 danios, 1 male betta, and two female bettas in my 29 gallon community tank. I have a gold gourami also, but I'm trying to get rid of it. The bettas are fine with the other fish if you're wondering.

I am going to add a few more danios, but I really want some interesting fish for my tank. I don't want to have to order it online.
What are some interesting (and not too expensive) fish I could get?

Paarot fish are cichlids! There's no way they'll live in a community tank!

You could try some Marble or Silver Hatchet-fish or Butterfly-fish from Africa, both types are surface feeders, insect eaters and gentle as far as other species go. They like to be in groups, like your Danios, but spend most of the time near the top part of the water column. They require a good cover for the tank, because they can really jump. It's their preferred method of escape from predators. Also, there are some perfectly gentle Cichlids, don't let the family name throw you, check out the dwarf Cichlids, like Rams,or Kribensis. Are all of your Cories the same species? If not you might consider adding some more of an individual type that you already have, a school (six or more) of Cories is a lot of fun to observe. Some sort of plant matter in the diet is nice for Cories also(lettuce,Zucchini, spinach). Of course the stuff should not be left in the tank for more than 12 hours, and should be blanched(quickly dropped into boiling water and then removed and placed under cold water to stop the cooking, two minutes for the Zucchini, less for the leafy stuff.) I use bag clips attached to suction cups to hold plant material in the water,so it is easy to remove. Just be sure that the clip and spring are all plastic.(No metal)---- Sounds like a fun aquarium, have fun!-----PeeTee

CIchlids are too big or aggressive, gourami don't normally get along with bettas, A rainbowfish is the only thing I could think of that might do ok, and you would want a school of 4.

You could get some Cory catfish. I have them and they are always swimming around the tank. You can also buy some clawed frogs that live completely under water. They are both cheap.

how about singing fish? both croaking gouramis and sparkling gouramis can make noise with their pectoral fins -- it is used for mating usually but you can't beat noisy fish.

a small group of cory catfish is always fun they are always busy

dwarf gouramis would work

a school of tetras or rasboras

parrot fish are quite interesting, clean, social, and small enough to fit in your tank with the other fish. They come in many tropical colors and eat what u are already feeding your other fish.
