Alien
It was the first to do the gut-splitting bit. Now, it's all too overdone and boring in movies that copied suit.
I feel sorry for the younger crowd who saw the hundreds of clones that followed before they saw Alien. They completely lost the impact.
A sh*t-load of people came out of their seats when I saw it in the first week of it's release. It's passe now.
P.S.
I read some of your earlier posts. I see you get hammered a lot like me.
I think your posts deserve better responses. Some are very thought provoking. Like the one about 4-letter words. I often wondered about that myself. I think it's the quick impact, shock it induces.

I presume you're talking about the films? I like them both- Alien has the originality and suspense, Aliens has all-out action and more horror.
If I had to choose...Alien. But only just.

There's an age divide on this one I found, those who are over 35 generally say Alien, and those under say Aliens. Obviously this is just based on a pole of my friends and family.

Although Alien is my favourite, I love Bill Paxton's "It's over man!!" scene in Aliens. I'm going to watch both of the right now.
