As an American with dual US-UK nationality who lives in Britain, I see things now more from the outside than the inside.
My personal opinion is that that the US is exceptionally protectionist of its own ways and does not see itself as part of a global community. If it did there would be better laws on harmful emissions to the environment, and the global impact. Let's face it - America is selfish when it comes to things like energy consumption.
So while I don't think they're trying to "rule" the world, I think their business power is always pushing to be at the top.

We actually were ruling the world in the 5 or 10 years after WW II. Our only real competitor was the USSR and we were able to hold them at bay with NATO.
Our world influence has been in steady decline since then as other countries came on line and began competing with us fairly rather than on US terms.
(Many people don't realize because they're too young how much power American companies had in foreign countries. In some areas, they had to be disciplined by American politicians for being overly controlling.)

That is a ridiculous question. Have you forgotten the States were hit hard on 9/11? The US has never, ever instigated a war for gags and giggles. They have always either helped or been brought into a war because of a certain threat.
My grandfather came back from WW2 an alcoholic jerk because he was so torn by the lives he took defending Europe from Hitler. Please don't forget the the States played a huge roll in keeping Europe free from a communist society. Many, many lives lost and ruined.
Please don't forget that!

It wanted to but it has lost the battle.
It has always been their goal from way back in 1965 when World Headquarters came after the company's name in Detroit.
Then came bio technology followed by gene manipulation.
It struck oil for a while feeding off UK innovation and was the first to outsource to China.
Money is its power and greed provides its converts.
Until Putin can knock it out of the market place before China there is nothing to fear.
Hardware has nothing to do with it. Remember Vietnam?

No. But America wants and has been controlling the world. Also, when things get hot (like in Iraq), America likes to disappear leaving the shredded countries to pick up the pieces on their own.

I look at America as the people. The politicians/ US government on the other hand have a completely different idea and aggenda, tell me you don't see it. Fight for this country it has the potential to be an amazing place. Vote SMART, not for political parties.

no,but i do think they want to spread democracy, get the worlds arguments and hammer them out without warfare, this is workable, if the u.s. and brit had the courage to do this- here is a sanario- a muslim leader stands up and declaires everything that is wrong with the west way of life. the american leaders says everything he believes is wrong with their way, each goes away reflects, if the muslum is justified, the american leader agrees and takes steps to repair, instead of pretending they are perfect, and the muslums agree and repair their missgivings, what you have then is to leaders analising right and wrong without warfare
we will get nowhere till this type of courage is recognised. the earth is a classroom, so sort it out in the classroom instead of killing each outher in the school yard.

They will never be able to completely rule the world but they are increasing their influence, enforcing their politics on those who cannot stand up for themselves and pursuing their own interests (probably like any other country would do)
