If we had no soul, then how could we be aware of our existence? We would be robots! Matter by itself cannot explain our self-awareness. I mean, can you BE a computer, for example? No! Even if it's as (or more) complex as a human brain. You ARE a human being because of your soul. You cannot be a table or a chair, for example - only a living being. Not even a robot.

No one knows. I mean neanderthals where self aware and we dont really know why is there something insted of nothing. I ponder that every night i lay in bed why are we here and i dont know. I dont know about god or souls all i know is no one has ever came back and dont say Jesus did cause there is no proof for that that's a faith thing. But why would a god create us? I mean think how long infinity is and outta nowhere he makes us in this point in time! The cause of self awareness is the size of and the complex nature of are brain;thats all! You cant say well i am self aware so i have a soul it just does not work. Our universe could be like a hair on another creature. who knows these things but great question. We just might be smart animals that are self-aware and as a coping mechanism we invented the soul and god who never talks to me. Neanderthals buried their dead also which means maybe they believe like some of us do...
