After you replaced the battery, did you turn it back on? Hold down the red button untill the lights come on again. If that doesn't work, try plugging in the charger, the phone should respond, it should say charging.
If that doesn't work, remove the battery and check it with your multimeter, see if it has 3.6 v., if not, your battery may be bad. (how old is it?)

Motorola cellphones have this style where batteries are the back covers at the same time.. so if you take out the battery of course it wont work because its the same as you are turning it off?!! and other thing is there'll be no back cover.

It will turn off. Your information will not be affected by just removing the battery. Make sure phone is off before you do though.

It will turn off the phone.
It won't erase any numbers stored in your phone if that is what you are worried about.

As for sure, nothing will happen. If any thing happens, post the questions again.
