I have tried to figure it out but I cant and I just ot a 30gb video ipod and I have no idea why it wont play sound....it plays sound on my songs but it wont play sounds on my videos....help please!!!

i had this kind of problem. turn it off and then turn it on. see if it's working. maybe your headphones are wrong. change them.

Make sure it's converting the files properly. There may be a problem with the audio in the source file, so while the original video plays just fine with sound, it may become corrupted in the conversion process.
Try Videora (http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/) if you haven't already, it may operate differently than the program you're using now to convert video and do something differently that helps maintain the audio quality.

This randomly happend to me once. all of the sudden it wouldnt play sound on my music or videos. i jus turned it off and waited a few minutes then it worked.
If the problem persits try and return as you said you just bought it..or go to the store like if it was curcite city..or something and ask them..
