Go to weather underground for your city and you can get a local weather history and possibly from a weather station near you

http://www.wunderground.com/

http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KVACHESA13&month=12&day=25&year=2006

Easy when you know where to look

As others have said this info is available from regional weather station reports. But also NOAA (http://www.nws.noaa.gov/) maintains data about 'degree days' that are for regions and the whole world. I haven't visited the site recently but they have a good search function. Determining that 2006 was or wasn't colder than 2005 would not prove (or disprove) anything about the global warming theory however, if that is your purpose, because any year or even short period of years or decades may differ significantly and yet be within statistical expectations from whatever 'norm' has been established.

Would be interesting to plot a graph of this, days on the x axis and min/max temperatures on the y axis.

Oh yeah you'll need to be more specific, as in what city etc.

I know Australia has the Bureau of Meteorology for this sort of thing.
