It's not uncommon for the printer heads to become blocked. If you've installed the cartridges correctly, run the head cleaning utility and still nothing comes out then the print heads are blocked. You can attempt some cleaning methods-printhead cleaning fluid and dummy cartridges are available but it's likely that the printer is beyond economic repair as printers are no longer made to last.

Take the ink cartridge out of the printer. On the bottom of the ink cartridge, remove the piece of tape that's there to keep ink from spilling.

Put the cartridge back in the printer.

on the heads of the new cartridge (the shiny brass bits) you will see a piece of tape or similar there, just remove that and off you go

Try deep cleaning, or put a cleaning cartridge through first.
