you can always use nail polish.

Keeping nails polished with at least a base coat is a good way to protect the nail and help improve nail growth. Some nailpolish's come with added vitamins or fibers that can help strengthen nails over time with continuous use. Say "bye, bye" to brittle nails.

For one thing, you should get one of those nail buffer-shiner kits or "blocks" to take off all the dry stuff on your nails. Also, if you get any sharp ridges on your nails, file them down. If you don't, your nail may get caught on something and could tear.
