Recently the phone screen on my Samsung X820 started displaying incorrectly, then the phone would turn itself off. Now the screen is completely unviewable (there are horizontal white lines across it).

I didn't take out insurance on the phone. Is this something that the manufacturer or network can rectify for me?

Is it poissible to buy replacement screens? The phone is only about 6 months old, should it still be covered by some kind or warranty?

If your phone is only 6 months old it should have a guarantee, so take it back to where you bought it, as for replacement screens, you may find one on eBay or some where but unless you are very good at DIY and I mean good, as it is very difficult to take a phone to bits, if you take it to a shop to fix and its you who pays it will be more expensive than the phone is worth most times, So if you can not get it fixed under guarantee dump it and get another.

The phone will be covered by a manufacturers 12 month guarantee. Go back to the company you bought it from and speak to them about it - they should replace it.
