Assuming this is XP:
Open the Control Panel (Start Control Panel)
Open User Accounts
Select your name, select 'change password'.

IDEA: If you have other people using this PC, give them their own login. Then select their name (as above) , and change the "Account Type" to 'limited. This stops them from adding and removing programs, etc. Be forwarned: if the person is a super techy, he can break your password.

If ONLY you use the PC, you can set a password on the harddrive. Any time you start to boot, it will ask for it. And it is VERY hard to break. I think it's set in BIOS. But never forget your harddrive password!!!!!

(I am not referring to the BIOS password, that too is easy to break. I'm talking harddrive password!!!)

Dont hear to that guy with taking the battery out. you're speaking relating to the domicile windows XP login. Clearing the CMOS is basically for the computing gadget motherboard, the hardware, it has no consequence in besides on domicile windows XP, or the confusing rigidity. If he's speaking relating to the password on the bootup video demonstrate, he's regrettably incorrect too, it wont erase that the two. you may purely do away with a device password via changing the BIOS (bodily or flashing it). yet that's no longer considerable and is greater advantageous than you would be able to desire to comprehend on your cutting-edge subject. except you may login as an administrator, you will by no potential be waiting to delete your husband's person account to delete or replace his password. XP purely helps that in case you have an administrator account. given which you cant get in, i'm assuming you haven't any longer have been given get admission to to it or have yet another administrator account, or you log in via fact the centred visitor, which nonetheless wont permit you mess with person account settings. in case you attempt to get into his data, or use that's to reinstall domicile windows XP, stick interior the CD, and reinstall it, purely instead of reinstalling, you tell it to repair it. this would reinstall fairly some new device data, and make a sparkling account person and login to boot. the solid information is that data, my data, and classes will nonetheless paintings (fairly some the classes, some won't paintings, yet maximum would desire to nonetheless paintings). This incredibly is your purely decision. risk-free mode purely helps you to get in and troubleshoot. You wont be waiting to do something to the person bills (or their passwords), all you will see is a low decision atmosphere the place you cant do plenty yet troubleshoot.

If it is your computer that means you should be the administrator,so no one else can change or know your password except yourself.Secondly, make sure you use the basic rule of setting password e.g using upper casing, numbers and or maybe lower casing all combined together.

Dont forget your password, make it something you can remember but someone close will not be able to guess, I see so many letters about people accessing their computers, when all they have done is guess what you will use.
