I have an old laptop running windows 95 (233Mhz and 96mb memory) and wanted to give it to my little bother as a first computer to run games on. And was wondering if updating it to 2000 would make any big diffence on how well it runs ? What are the pros or cons
Thanks

You have only just managed to scrape in with that system as far as Windows 2000 minimum hardware requirements go:

Windows 2000 is fundamentally very similar to Windows XP so you will definitely have better hardware and software support than on Windows 95.

The downside is that the computer will probably run quite slowly. The decision is up to you I suppose, personally I would give it a try.

Indeed it would. By upgrading to Windows 2000 based on the specs of your machine it would run so slow that you would have to turn it on before going to bed so that you can use it in the morning. (If it works at all.) Honestly people sell laptops like that at computer shows for $50.00. If your battery still holds a charge you truly do keep your stuff in awesome condition. You get a thumbs up from me.

i have an age old computer with a Pentium 1 processor running at 133MHz and 128MB ram. originally it ran with Windows 95 but due to instability of that operating system i decided to upgrade to Windows 2000. it works but it's pretty slow - startup time is about 4 minutes.

but your laptop has a 233MHz processor (Pentium 2 ?) and in case you're willing to spend some money for a memory upgrade to 256MB (2 x 128MB, i suppose that's technically possible) that laptop will run pretty smoothly with W2K. look on ebay for 128MB memory modules (i guess it's PC66 or PC100), there are always offers for really cheap (see the link below)
