The antibiotic, like penicillin, works so well against so many infections that it is often called the “miracle drug.” Actually, antibiotics are chemicals, which, when put into your body, kill or stop the growth of certain kinds of germs. They help your body fight disease. That is why these medicines are called antibiotics, which name comes from two Greek words meaning “against life.” As the name suggests, antibiotics work against many of the forms of life that we call germs.

penicillin is referred to as the miracle drug for two reasons. one mainly being that it is the base for all drugs today. every drug you take today is just modified penicillin. molecules added on or taken off. the second reason is that it kills pathogens in the body. in other words it cures you when your sick.
