It sounds like the baby isn't due for a while because you say you dont know the sex. I assuming you are in your first trimester -very early.
Give him time to adjust to all of this. You may be excited, but he may be apprehenisve and scared! Let him get used to the idea and approach him when you two are in a snuggly situation. He may be more receptive and not defensive or unhelpful.
When you make your suggestions on names, give him alternatives to call him or her. Adelaide is an old fashioned name, its not often heard so it may sound strange to him. I love the name Elenor, but telling my hubby was hard. I said, 'we could call her Ellie, or Elle...even Lenore, Lyn, Lynnie-all the nicknames sold him, he even came up with a few.
Ask him to make a list (when the time is closer) and to be thoughtful. After the sex is determined, it might not be as overwhelming; give him time for that adjustment too!
What about a middle name that he could pick to call him or her? Who knows, you make like Michelle Adeliade, better than Adelaide Michelle because it rolls off your tounge like a song, where the second way is chunky.
Sometime when you are all cuddled up, being sweet, say something like 'If we named the baby Adelaide, we could call her Addie...or... "
Good luck!

Adelaide sounds pretty good for a girl & Dakota is okay for a boy. Look up their meanings too & see if you still feel the same about the names.
Ask your hubby to give you a list of his favorites & see if you like any of his. You might need to compromise like you pick a middle name & he the first name or vice versa. Or flip for it..LOL!
You can always find him in a good mood & sweet talk him. Let him know 9 months & labour pains you're going to go thru maybe can earn you an extra privilege in the name.
Don't stress over it. Have fun & enjoy your priceless gift of love.

Ask him what his favorite names are, and you may end up liking some of his. The names I'm picking out from now were not my first choices. You could also go through a baby name book together and pick out names you both like. Good luck!

Sorry, I agree with your husband about Aubrey and Adelaide. I like Dakota for a girl more than a boy. Lane is okay, but I actually know a male stripper by this name.
Get him to make some suggestions so that you can choose names together. Not just him vetoeing your name suggestions. He should give some input as well.

Names are hard to figure out. With my first one, we decided I would pick the first name and he would pick the middle. Good thing because his name is Austin Mondell. I don't like the middle name so much, but it's after a great grandfather. With the 2nd child my husband said his name was going to be Brett and that was fine with me, I love the name Brett, the middle name is long but it's after a grandfather and a favorite uncle, so his name is Brett Michael-Robert. Our last child and only daughter was more my decision, we knew we were having a daughter, he gave me his ideas, (I gave him a baby book to look at). He didn't like my origianl suggestions of Taylor, Karly, or Jaden. So we were watching American Wedding and he said "what about Cadence" and that was it. I love it. So we named our daughter Cadence Dawn. Dawn being my middle name. Try to pull ideas together and maybe mix and match his ideas with your ideas. That's what we did, But it took a long time. For the first and last child it was more difficult, I swear the name change for the whole 9 months of my pregnancy's. Good luck and Congrats

names can be really hard to find. Ummmm, my first; my cuz thought Destiny looked good spelled Destinee. (she's my cuz, so important to me) + Angela was my best friend at the time; so it worked out. For my twins; my husband & I CHECKED-OUT books. We ended up with Alexis Rae & Haley Elizabeth. After 8 months and like 1,000,000,000 trips to the L/D room(twins). For our 4th & final kid; we went to the internet. After narrowing it down to 50 names; we picked Xavier J.... neither of the names were on the list. They're from 2 different cartoons. That's just us; different... My advise is to look together. How long til you're due?....If both your families have a name past down and it IS super important; than if it is a girl, the first name should come from your side. If it is to be a boy; the first name should come from his side...All my girls had a name before they were born. My boy didn't have a name for a week after he was born, and my oldest had a "roommate" who didn't have a name for 2 months,at least! Think together, really! confusing..? Yes! It usally is.

well, I guess your girl names are OK. However, from your husband's perspective, your boy names are kinda gay. The only reason I say that is because they are both unisex. As a man, he is already hoping for a boy. Therefore, he wants to hear you suggest manly names. As far as you both being happy with the names, maybe you guys can come up with some names together that you both like at least somewhat, and then based on the sex, either you or he gets to pick the name. Like if its a girl, you pick a girl name from the list, or if its a boy, he picks a boy name from the list. Good luck

Ask your husband to do up a list, too, and then see if any of his names are similar to any of your names. If he's not going to be helpful, then I think you should get to pick the name!
