It is a passage way used for maintenance, on the underground system it is an actual path, on a ship it could be a small tunnel, on computer oriented devices it could be a route for accessing things not for normal usage.
There is one for example on many satellite boxes for changing certain parameters that engineers like me use to say change the UHF TV channel output.
