depends on how much room you have and what the local climate is. apples are nice, as are crab apples. i like cheery trees, they're about to pop soon around here, beautiful. another i like is called an orchid tree. look a pic http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/aransas/orchidtree.htm says they're tropical but there are a few here along the canadian border soo..

Well we have a apple tree and it makes pretty Lil flowers but its not a flowering tree if you like apples then go for it as that's what the flowers turn into if you want a nice tree why not frangilli pilli they are so pretty and smell fantastic and you can trim them so they don't grow to high but it depends on your personal taste have a look in your local nursery

I have apple trees in my back yard....they have lovely gray/green leaves in the spring, which darken a little during the summer.

They have lovely white flowers, that smell great...

They actually bear fruit, but its impossible to beat the birds to the fruit...the birds peck at the fruit, and when they fall on the ground, bees like to live in them.

If you can plant mizuno cherry trees, they have even more beautiful blooms, and they dont give fruit, so you wont have the mess.
