It is more easier to get to the bottom of your problem if you could have given more details. Since you talked only about communication skills, try observing those persons who are the life of the party and compare to yourself to figure out where you're going wrong. Image is also related to how you appeal to people. Do you have a rare complex, that anyone want to stay away from you bcoz of it? do you have a foul body odour.

I'm also very witty, but sometimes I don't get friends bcoz people think I'm a snob beause I dress fashionably, very picky or sometimes I have an unconsciously stern face and they think I'm unfriendly. But after I've spent 6 months at a new school or workplace, people know more about me and they all feel sorry for their first impressions. I've had old friends for years who didn;t think much of me at first.

Maybe you should confide in a close relative or family to help you overcome the real faults by asking them if there is anything with your personality or habits that might be a potential threat to making friends. Good Luck!

feeling better alone is some thing else and confidence is something else....
conversation is an intellectual transformation. if you find difficulty in making the friends, OK do not make but at least there is a formal method of conversation and just talk to any one known to you. Just try to interact with the people either of your age or younger to you, it will give you a confidence of communication and then you could be able to communicate with others, and it will also help you to make the friends.
Best of Luck!!

Just realize everybody's a person, just like you. It might be hard talking to someone above you, but in 90% of the situations you'll find yourself in, that's not the case. If you're having trouble meeting people, it may be because you don't have that much interest in them or you don't have that much in common with them. That's alright, you just have to keep trying talking to different people and eventually you'll find someone (or a group of people) with whom you'll really fit in.
