I had my broadband installed last Monday, and Norton 2006 was included in the package.
Before I was running on AVG free antivirus and Ad-aware. The PC was running very fast then.
I installed Norton and everything was so slow. Now it is beginning to be so slow I can't do anything without a huge delay. Even when I am typing this it appears later than what it should!
My PC has a gig RAM, and 160 gig HDD.
Any alternatives to Norton? I worried that if I uninstall it that my protection will go as I keep my PC on continuously.
Will turning to an alternative be worth my while? I just want to gain back the speed of my computer!

Remove Norton using the Norton removal tool. Google it.
Before you do that install a good Fire wall. Zone Alarm? & Spyware Doctor or Spyware Detector. Worth the money. I have just removed over 5000 yes, 5000 infections from a PC that ran with no security.

BT are great for phones but their broadband package with norton is a disaster
get rid of norton its why your system is slow i changed to
AVG best thing ive ever done reliable quick no problems
you may have problems getting rid of norton as it leaves bits behind but if you go to symantecs site they do have a removal tool or at least they did have not looked recently
good luck

As Norton Internet Security it slows down your computer a lot so you must remove it and maybe install AVG or if you want a paid anti virus thats light on your computer and is a better anti virus use Panda Anti Virus 2007 its only £17 for two licences.

Yeah Norton is a bit of a system hog - you can uninstall it and put another security prog back on
If you have got btbroad band installed - are you using the BT browser - if so use the IE browser instead or better still (Opera or Firefox)
The BT browser is a bit sluggish

I would try uninstalling norton first and see if your pc speeds back up. If it does...just go back to AVG again. If it does not speed up, could be something else on the pc causing it and you may want to then do a full system scan.

I had the same problem - norton was making everything really slow and my bf took them all off last night. Today its much quicker. In add/remove their wasn't anything saying norton to remove but if you look at the properties of each thing in remove the ones with 'symantic' are the norton files. Takes ages to take them all off but its much better once they've gone. Good luck xxx

I had exactly the same trouble and all I done was turn off the Norton personal firewall and the speed came back.
If you contact BT over it they will deny it has anything to do with Norton! When I phoned to complain I couldn't get into my outlook express they told me to take my PC to a repair shop and get outlook express reinstalled as it was a PC problem, I uninstalled firewall and hey presto my outlook express was working fine!
