Work is love made visible – an old saying; there must be something better than the work that makes you work and your work worthwhile, and again there must be someone, or something that makes you value the thing that makes you work. Sometimes we end up measuring our life or whatever we do in life in very narrow measures. If in your hand you only have a tea cup then this all the water you can take from an ocean, but if you build yourself a ship then you has all the expanses of the ocean in your reach, the ocean, the waves, the winds all are for you to commune with. Then you can also take on board other people you love and care in this journey. This is only allegorical, but no very detached from the reality. We all are trying to stay afloat. We all have things in our life without which we would drown in our own selves. The worth of life is determined by what you are.

It's not an easy question, because in terms of money depends on if the value is for oneself or for the others. For oneself might be the most we have or matter for worms. For the others, according to the ethic values of a particular society the life of a poor might be nothing in front of the life of a rich person. We can even say that in our society , an American life for example has "more value" than an African one. Otherwise we wouldn't allow children and poor people die of hunger and misery. Their lives even disturb, as it seems. Terrible weight on our consciousnesses.

Everything to us, less to our employers, not much at all to a small band of people.

Strange thing is, it's only the employers that value our lives in money, we and that small band don't.

So our current capitalist way of life makes 'we that care' extremists just like those that 'don't care at all'.

An employer has to earn 3 times what he/she pays you to just break even.

If you want to be free of an employer, become self employed and earn directly from your own efforts.

What is your life worth to you? Whatever you do, it is needed by someone. Your presence is needed by someone. Are we defined by our work or do we define our work by ourselves. I think it is the latter. Do not belittle who you are. You are the center of your universe and very important. Believe!
