Being a democracy is not the problem in India... the problem with India is the complete conversion to capitalism. This is opening the doors for American corporation to come exploit India for cheap labor and corrupting your politicians.

You (the people of India) are the only ones who can answer that question. Such a determination is totally subjective and the answer only lies in what you have accomplished with democracy or dictatorship.
