I was wondering what (combination of) essential oil(s) can be used to help you wake up after one of those nights that seem to last forever and are full of unhappy dreams? Not so much nightmares, but just a general sad feeling in the dreams that stays with you when you wake up and makes coming fully awake very difficult and during the day you have the feeling you're still half asleep and not really there, if you understand what I mean.

I feel that Lemon or peppermint essential oil may be of benefit.
As you probably know, dreams help us work out situations while we sleep, that are perhaps too difficult for us to work out in a waking state. Having dreams like you describe is actually a blessing because it means that things in your life are being resolved while you are sleeping. If the feeling continues while you are awake, your dream may be telling you that something in your life needs your attention while in the waking hours. Right before you go to sleep, ask that you be given more clarity in your dreams, so that you can understand what needs to be done. This works for me. Blessings

The best essential oil I have found for this is black pepper. Use it sparingly as it can cause headaches.

If you have a recurring problem with this when waking you might want to consider unresolved issues of grief. The Grief Recovery Handbook can be purchased from Amazon.com and is a good tool you can use on your own.

To get general alertness:

I use Rosemary, citrus of some sort, eg. Lemon or Grapefruit, Juniper and sometimes Bergamot.

You can grow Rosemary and Bergamot easily in the garden, to prepare your own fresh teas etc.

Lavender is relaxing, and often used to aid sleep - you'll need to experiment, if you're gonna use it (I noticed someone posted it).

You could use some Thyme, Pine or Ginger, which I also find helps my mental clarity and focus.

Good luck! Rob

A good snort from a bottle of Clary Sage. One for each nostril.
Then same but gentler snorts probably Orange or Frankincense for me.

Perhaps you could try a stimulating oil such as Rosemary, which is an energising oil. Also, Neroli, could be good as it is a tonic, and could boost your immune system, which might need a bit of a boost. Lavender is also a good rejuvenating oil.

Smelling salts. You should be able to find some in any medicine cabinet. They work great for helping you wake up in the morning.

Peppermint is my favorite "wake-up" oil. I also love peppermint tea in the mornings for the same reason.

Grapefruit is a very good wake up oil; you may also like to balance it out with something softer, like bergamot, for balance; or sandalwood, for grounding you.

A blend of lavender, marjoram, neroli and rosewood works wonders for me.
