Why web communities only spend time on social networking and nothing much else??? There're not much matured happenings except talks about sex, movies, music, etc. Is the majority of web communities generally slow or something? No offense. Just want to know why.

And the activity is to make friends, friends and more friends. That boggles me. Personally I prefer to get into serious discussion about global concerns.

I agree that it is a form of entertainment. To me it is a convenient comfort zone where I can communicate with others without the risk of complications involved in regular social gatherings. It is not all bad.

Its escapism and entertainment. Not uch else really goes on. A way of avoiding other people and face to face talks in favor of emotional attachment to a machine.

these people are trying to re-capture something that is missing in their real lives.
If you find One intelligent person on any of those sites then I will eat my work boots for Easter dinner
note: a cool layout does not equal intelligence
also you can't find yourself although many of them need to.
