You can not use apples as measuring tool because we do not know what type of apples the smurfs harvested; they could have been crab apples. I would use the cat as a measuring tool. I would figure out the average size of a cats head then I would find a picture that has the cats head and a smurf in the same frame. Then you should easily be able to find the answer you are looking for.

It's about as tall as a normal mushroom is.
Haven't you seen the cartoon series called "The Smurfs"?! :D

The storylines tend to be simple tales of bold adventure. The cast has a simple structure as well: almost all the characters look essentially alike — male, very short (just "three apples tall"), with blue skin, white trousers with a hole for their short tails, white hat in the style of a Phrygian cap, and some additional accessory that identifies each one's personality.

According to the show they were said three apples high...which translates into being between 9 and 12 inches high. However, when you actually watch the show, the were more like between 5 and 7 inches.

Actually its height doesn't exist, because it lives in mushrooms, that means its height is one of an insect, but in the forest, its height is half that of a squirrel. So,the show is inaccurate in that question...
