Would you please tell me wether the statements are true or false, and why?
*(+/-) means "positive or negative".
1. iff x^2 = y^2, then x = (+/-)y ,
as in 4^2 = (-4)^2 , 4 = +(-4) or -(-4)
"Obviously", iff x^2 = 9, then x = (+/-)3.
However, is it correct (or usual) to write (+/-)x = 3?
Given x = 25
(square root)x = (square root)25
Should I write (+/-)(square root)x = 5
or
(square root)x = (+/-)5
or
(+/-)(square root)x = (+/-)5 ?
Should the equations be equivalent to one another, please tell me in the answer.
Thank you.
