Would you please tell me wether the statements are true or false, and why?
*(+/-) means "positive or negative".

1. iff x^2 = y^2, then x = (+/-)y ,
as in 4^2 = (-4)^2 , 4 = +(-4) or -(-4)

"Obviously", iff x^2 = 9, then x = (+/-)3.
However, is it correct (or usual) to write (+/-)x = 3?

Given x = 25

(square root)x = (square root)25

Should I write (+/-)(square root)x = 5
or
(square root)x = (+/-)5
or
(+/-)(square root)x = (+/-)5 ?

Should the equations be equivalent to one another, please tell me in the answer.

Thank you.

when you are soving for variable you give the variable as a positive
so you do not write (+/-)x=3
you want to know what x is equal to
with (+/-)x=3 the variable is not solved for
in math you want to know what the +variable is equal to

same is true for sqrt problem
if you write +/- sqrt x
you are not solving for the varible

in addition that means
1.)-sqrt x = +x
2.)+sqrtx=+x
3.)-sqrtx=-x
and4.) +sqrtx = +x
but 1)-sqrt x =+x and 3.)-sqrt x =-x
are the same as 2)+sqrtx=-x and 4)+sqrt x =+x
the other two answers you have....
with that you actually repeated yourself

tradition in math is to make the variable positive
having a neg variable like -x=3 is too confusing

I hope my explaination helped

looks like you made a mistake writing numbers 2 and three because they don't make sense. For volume a million, because you comprehend that y = x-5, in basic terms put in x-5 for y interior the first equation. So 2x + y = 25 will become 2x + x - 5 = 25. upload 5 to both aspect to get 2x + x = 30. upload the x's collectively to get 3x = 30. Divide both aspect by technique of three and also you get x = 10. because y = x-5, y is 10 - 5, or y = 5. So your answer is (10, 5) For 4 via 9, you should simplify. What is going into both 5x and 30? 5 does, so as which potential 5x + 30 = 5(x + 6) For #5, imagine of the factors of 14. they are (a million and 14), and (2 and seven). are you able to make use of this way of pairs to characteristic as a lot as 9 for 9x? definite, by technique of including 2 and seven. So once you element it, you get (x + 2)(x + 7). Do an same with something else.

i think...u r confused with this...
- means negative
+ means positive
for example-
square of 5 = 25
also, square of -5=25
this is because,
when -5 is multiplied by -5.....it get positive
this doesn't happen while we add
see, (-5 )+(-5)= -10
the sign doesn't change but they get added
just remember.....
square root of x = square root of 25
here.....u can write square root of x as -5 or 5...because they both have their square =25....
i hope u understand........

The question will define the set of numbers to be considered

If x is a member of the set of natural numbers,
√9 = 3 ie only 1 value.

However if x is a member of the set of real numbers,
√9 = ± 3

A square root is always a positive no..
hence square root of -25 isnt possible
Its only square root of 25 = 5

since you're finding what x is and not what +-x is, always write in the form of x = + or - something.

Even though the other form is correct but you haven't not actually solved the equation if you write - or +x = ....

dear como, i don't think that was what English Learner asked

it is correct, but unusual to write +-x = 3 (and probably not on the examiners mark sheet).

given x = 25
sqrt x = +-5

that is all that is necessary.

do not write +-sqrt x = +-5
