Well, its reported Prince Charles has 100, personally working for him, and he has more than his Mother.
So, I would guess less than 100. What I mean is personal people. Not people hired by the state to look after Estates, dinners for the Royals to entertain visiting guest (this would be a State benefit, not a royal one), so the state should pay for it. So, you have to divide those who work for the Government and those who personally work for the "family."

A ridiculous amount.
Recently Prince Charles went to America to pick up an environment award. There were 18 people in his entourage.
This included a doctor, a hairdresser and two people who were employed to carry all of the luggage!
The British taxpayer sees a great chunk of their hard earned cash diverted to supporting this institution every year. And what do they get in return?
Somebody to open hospitals. Somebody to provide a bit of light relief in the tabloids. And thats about it.
What a Waste!!
