Here are the statistics for the Atlantic basin. For Tropical Cyclones, the most there have been is 18; the least, 4; and the average, 9.7. For Hurricanes, the most there have been is 12; the least, 2; and the average, 5.4.

Now as far as storms hitting the US coastline between Texax and Maine there have been 109 cat 1 storms, 72 cat 2, 71 cat 3, 18 cat 4, and 3 cat 5, for a total of 273 hurricanes to have hit the US between 1851 and 2004. Of those 40% hit Florida.

there was 28 in 2005, that is a record.... only 6 made it on land
