I love football ("soccer")... But I, too, am puzzled by the US' performance in the global stage.
We were awful last year... We lost to who, Angola? But outside of the World Cup we actually play at a good pace... So I guess maybe it's just the stress of the Cup.
I wish it would become more popular here, when I went to Germany, even the local games were amazing to watch.

Cricket would never become popular with Americans. We would rather watch baseball. As for soccer, it's considered more of a sport played by high school kids in physical education class than a professional sport we take seriously. We prefer high contact sports rather than low contact, low scoring games.

Cricket was the sport of the leisured rich, who had the time to play it. Americans were too poor, and now don't have the necessary concentration span.
