What if you were born and raised in the ghetto and lived in a real bad area? Your mom has no car so you have to walk the streets to the grocery store and there are always lots of gangs on the streets and stuff. You don't have much. You go to a bad school because ur family doesn't have enough money. How would you handle yourself? I don't live in the ghetto my self, but I just don't know how I would handle my self if I weren't so lucky enough to grow up away from all that.

Honey, When I was a kid, we were so poor we thought we had gone to heaven when we got an apartment in the projects.
No more sharing a toilet in the hallway with 2 other families! WOW!

Over the years, I have moved up.
I have lived in all sorts of wonderful places, owned 5 different houses, traveled etc...

HOW?

I stayed in school, learned to read, speak and write like a normal educated person... no ghetto slang... I don't AXE for anything, I ask... you know what I mean.

I taught myself social skills and dining etiquette, from watching movies and looking at how the rich people lived.
I dressed in plain but tasteful clothes, accessories can make one outfit go from casual to dressy.

It is not hard to do.
It really isn't.

you live you learn. you adapt in ways that only a person in that sitution can. you learn to SURVIVE. you CHOOSE. do you become just like those gangstas etc or do you use the negatives as a catalyst to succeed. we all are put in different situations in our lives that test our strenghts/weaknesses. be it in a really bad area-or rich family lacking love etc. no-ones life is completely perfect. we all have something we want-and we all have something that no.one else has. not sure if am making sense. But questioning the good and bad around us is part of the beauty of life.
There are MANY people who came out of the "ghetto". OPRAH comes to mind. other successful musicians etc, my point is...NO MATTER where you come from..what your situation is ..we all have the priviledge to choose for ourselves the life we want to live. I know many "priviledge/wealthy"people whose lives couldnt be more screwed up.And people who are from less fortunate circumstances doing ok. So to me..whether you come from the ghetto or not doesnt determine how lucky you will be. Thats up to an individual.

I was! I'm still alive. I'm a High school math teacher teaching in the "ghetto" now.

"Those who love their life will lose it, those who hate it will keep it for ever, and those who give it freely for me will live."
