Just curious to know.

I recalled years ago, "open house" was VERY popular with almost everyone holding them during their respective festive season. But now, more & more people opt for holidays in Malaysia & abroad. Must be catching on. The local papers are full of ads put up by travel bureaus.

Will "open house" stand the test of time?

Dear Sarah - luckily not everyone's like you, otherwise there'll be no open houses anymore.

I doubt that there will be many open houses left in ten years time, it's what they called 'progress'

I can remember visiting some coastal villages such as Dalat and Daru in Sarawak. Their appeal to visitors and tourists alike was their quaintness and their sense of a timeless place because even the main 'Shopping centre' was made out of wood and everyone knew each other.

I visited them two places a few years later and alas 'Progress' had caught up with them and they now have concrete shops, Astro and zero tourists going there, they have become just another small town in Sarawak.

Apparently the government said that the wooden shops posed a fire risk and were pulled down to make way for bricks and air cons. I dread to think what I might see upon my next visit there, maybe huge condominiums and traffic jams everywhere.

But hey, it's all in the name of 'Progress' (What a shame)

The best plans for CNY is to stay at home and get along with friends and family. every holiday locations full of people and expensive during this time, especially food. just not worth it.

for sure "open house" will stand the test of time. 100% agree it will stay. reason is simple, the food is free.
