Society has itself to blame also as children are being exploited more and more at younger ages in magazines, movies etc and young girls are taught at a young age to dress and be sexy (Bratz, Paris & Britney as role models) and then we wonder why there are pedo's and want to then create a witchunt looking for them. If these guy's are driven to such bad act's they cannot get any help to stop such things themselves. People like to accuse others but don't look at themselves first. I realise this is a taboo subject and like in the witchunt days I might also risk being accused at the mere discussion but someone had to say it....

To be clear I'm not excusing anyone guilty of these crimes and anyone cault should be dealt with by the law but just wanted to comment on the hypocricy in society

You just did what you accused others of ... exploitation.

You mention seductive dressing for girls as "temptation" for pedophiles as a way to prove a point about cultural fashion trends ... using girls to make the point.

What about all the boys molested. What's sexy about an 8 year old boy in a cub scout uniform? I would say nothing ... but by your assertion, he might be causing himself to be victimized by wearing a uniform as some people think uniforms are sexy? But you didn't mention boys in your question.

And infants ... again, what's the sex appeal there?

Pedophiles exercise control and violence against children for sexual gratification. It is an illness. Let's not blame the victim.

Perhaps... that is certainly one view point to take.

Paedophilia has been going on for centuries. Concubines, Odalisques were often very very young when they first enterred there role.

I know many 50 year old women, who tell of sexual abuse which they suffered as children at the hands of their father, brother, uncle or grandfather.

However they never ever reported it.

Is it that peadophilia is growing in society as a result of media and advertising?

Or is it that there are more reports of peadophilia as a result of educating parents, children, teachers, health professionals about child abuse.

Today in western civilisations there are task forces set up specifically to help victims of child abuse, and connected with those task forces are police who are tracking down the perpetrators.

The perpetrators are taken to courts where the media sits in and then reports about the peadophile come to our tv screens and our newspapers.

I'm not so sure that any of these services were available a century ago,

At the moment we have a lot of research on the impact of child sexual abuse on the child and on that victim through to adulthood.

There are not however readily accessible services available to those who feel they may be peadophiles. A lot of the programmes run are pilot programmes, no-one really knows if they are going to have any positive effects.

What has been worked out though is that castration whether chemical or physical does not work in preventing a peadophile from abusing children.

Instead teams of psychiatrists are trying things like sensory masturbation, where the peadophile has a fantasy, starts to masturbate, and before the moment of climax forces their thoughts to visualise something that they percieve as horrific, like the murder of their mother.

Apparently this technique retrains the mind to not see children as sexual beings, but rather teaches them that having sex with children will only do major damage.

I don't know if it's been proven to work. All I know is that that is one of the studies happening at the moment.

The number participating in the study is no more than about 50.

As that is the maximum that service can take. Considering there were over 2000 hits to a child pornography site somewhere in Europe recently. The funds and the services simply are not inplace to research how to cure peadophiles. More research is put in to how to cure obesity, or breast enlargements, and the use of botox, rather than the protection of children.

What is important to remember however is that peadophilia is not exclusive to the male of our species, there are numerous females who are peadophiles. It is simply less likely that a child will view a female as an offender.

I don't believe that the way in which department stores advertise there childrens clothing is contributing to paedophila. I believe we simply here more about it, and go on these witch hunts, as a result of the way society uses technology.

We've set up support for victims, now we need to focus on providing prevention techniques to likely perpetrators.

The visual merchandising of children as sexual beings is not subject to morality because it is an industry dependent on FASHION - paedophilia is a pathological disease that produces a VICTIM.

Advertising of children as sexy commodities produces PROFIT and does not hurt anyone.

A paedophile will seduce a child even if it is wearing a potato sack over it's head. Paedophiles corrupt innocence and DEFILE THAT WHICH THEY PERCEIVE TO BE PURE REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE CHILD IS WEARING.

It's not just society it is as much as the parents fault because they are too busy or too (enter word(s) of choice here) to actually take care of their kids. Don't forget the justice system which relies on judges' prerogative (that's another issue to tackle) to deal with pedophiles and pedophilia, (remember the guy a month ago given probation for molesting a six year old kid!!!). Law enforcement officials usually have their hands tied, because, if they do ANYTHING that seems remotely out of line, they would be accused of abuse (civil rights, racism, physical, duress, etc...)
If you don't want your kid to end up like britney and her pals, then teach her NOT to be!!! Boundaries are breaking down, because we let the government handle minute details (see the attempt banning of cell phones while crossing the street in NY!! etc...) while wanting MORE autonomy and rights. Rights, responsibility and consequences are entwined and unfortunately we as a society want all the rights without the responsibility and the consequence that goes along with it! Pedophiles will not change, nor can we instill normalcy in those perverted minds...they occur with or without the social breakdown, its just that we as a whole give them more and more chances to be their own perverted selves.

You are right.

Society is creating this, it is cause & effect.
But you won't find anyone willing to take the blame because they are afraid of the punishment (Bill Clinton, "I just didn't inhale")

People are afraid what others will think or do to them if they know the truth, so they hide behind lies.

Currently, the situation is a bit like saying there are weeds, then trying to kill them with a lawnmower. You cannot get rid of the problem (pedophiles), till you attack it at its root (society, underage models, doll babies, etc)

Reguardless what they say, such filth should not be allowed because it not only can, but does hurt people (You always read what you sow, and when you reap, it is much larger than you sowed)

I agree with you. And a lot of it starts with the parents instilling that sexual beauty standard into their kids. But what do we do about the media? All we can do is the best we can as individuals to teach our kids what is really going on. People keep buying into this crap. Sometimes I feel like I'm drowning in a sea of ignorance.

I would like to add though there have always been pedophiles. The problem isn't just the media, the media is just fueling the fire.

Sexy like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I don't like to see children dressed in adult clothing, however kids like to emulate adults, its how they grow and learn, unfortunately revealing clothes are worn by lots of young ladies, however, I have a problem with the fact that you see these little girls as dressed sexily, and not just skimpily, if you believe these children to be dressed provocatively and sexily, then i shudder to think what your opinion of a naked child is. I believe you to be wrong in your thinking, in a healthy minded adult a little child could never, ever look to be dressed sexily. it just doesn't enter your mind, you may believe their dress to be inappropriate and maybe even concerned at their role models.

What i dont understand is how an adult is willing to screw up a child's life forever for a few minutes of pleasure. Sad world we live in sometimes, what i would give to be locked in a room with a guy who committed crimes against children.
