Anyone a fan or seen him picth in the last few years? Was this a decent signing for 3+ mil? i understood Ponson b/c it was just a minor league deal, but this guy got real cash!

I'm going to hope for the best and expect the worst.
Ortiz has been a very all or nothing player in his career. Sometimes he shows flashes of brilliance and dominance on the mound and in his next start he'll look like a high school pitcher stuck pitching to the AL All-Star team.
Luckily Anderson is a veritable Pitching God and should be able to give him some serious pointers. Also being on the same team as Johan Santana can't hurt a guy any either. I think having a core of Silva and Santana and Reyes and Rincon and all of the other Hispanic pitchers will help Ortiz feel much more comfortable and at ease in the Twins clubhouse and I think that will be crucial.
Personally, I'd expect him to put up numbers very similar to Silva's numbers in recent years. He seems like he'll be good to eat up some innings and have a higher ERA, but will probably still pull off somewhere around 10 wins and help solidify the back end of the Twins rotation.
Another big perk, he brings a ton of experience to a very young pitching staff. So does Ponson, but in a much less positive way.

Yeah, Anderson has revived some careers in the past, but he really isn't gonna light it up or anything. They will be lucky to get a .500 or better season from him and an era under 5.00. Best case scenario, he is the 4 or 5 guy and goes like 14-10.

He's not very good at all. He gives up far to many long balls. His location really needs to be adjusted. Hopefully the Twins pitching coach and help him keep his pitches down.
His era is usually 5.00 or higher.
