It was interesting to see fat Matt back after his disaster in Washington. He was a good DH a few years ago, does he have a chance at this point to be our DH next year?

I'd say that there is a shot, it's a long shot because we all saw what a cataclysmic failure his time in DC was. He would always rake against left-handed pitching, but that was about it. Although with the current plans of making Kubel the DH, maybe that works out well and the two could platoon at DH, b/c essentially LeCroy offers no value anywhere else in the field.

I always loved Matty and I'd love to see him back in a Twins uniform, so I'd say there's a shot...but it's definitely a long shot.

He's going to need to put on a really, REALLY good show in Spring Training or Kubel is going to have to look really bad for it to happen.

They might have one spot open for a DH and pinch hitter type, but he really can't play anywhere in the field, so that hurts him a lot. The organization likes him and he's a Twin at heart, so I'd give him a 50-50 chance. If the Twins have an injury or 2 he'll be there though. I am sure he will see time in the majors this year even if he doesn't make the squad out of spring.

Matt LeCroy has a very good chance of making the team as he can play both catcher and first base. There was a standing argument last year between Ron Gardenhire and Terry Ryan over the 25th roster spot as Gardie wanted a third catcher, and with all the injuries in the outfield Ryan switched that spot between a 6th OF and a 12th pitcher. But LeCroy, despite being well below average defensively, at least allows some versatility. This way, whey Joe Mauer needs to rest his legs, they can put him in the DH spot with Mike Redmond behind the plate. LeCroy on the roster hedges against the possibility of Redmond suffering an in-game injury, as LeCroy could replace him instead of Mauer shifting, which would then forfeit their DH spot for the rest of the game. LeCroy could also bat in the DH spot against left-handed pitchers, giving Jason Kubel a day off, and he can be a backup for Justin Morneau in case of injury to him.

LeCroy has also had some success as a power hitting right-handed pinch hitter, which the Twins lacked last year. They also signed Ken Harvey to a minor league contract for the purpose of having him compete for the same role, and the ability of LeCroy to play catcher will give him a distinct advantage going forward.

I think you will see Matt LeCroy in a Twins uniform in 2007.
