the pop culture American media has made it popular to be so.
2nd, many American families don't instill good values in their children...that or their children aren't listening. many parents can be labeled "apathetic" around here.

all teenagers think about sex at some point. I'm sure this has been the same for many generations now. But, no, the increase is staggering. I was talking to a younger cousin of mine (9 years younger)...and I was surprised at how much they knew compared to when I knew...and I how knew a lot more than my parents when they were my age, etc. etc.

Some reports show that kids these days are refraining from sex more than a few decades ago. Unsure about that. Maybe they are. But I sure know their "knowledge" has gone up. That's for sure.

The next question to debate or not is at what age even "knowledge" is too young. If they're old enough to conceive, then they should have an educated understanding of sex (not nec. this trash that the media puts out)...if before puberty, then certainly not.

I am not American but I'd like 2 put in my two cents worth anyway. The influences of American and British teenagers , while not very different, are different nonetheless. American teenagers are also, in my opinion, given a lot of freedom as their parents are mostly too busy with their own stuff. I think they have the mentality that its totally OK to have underage and unprotected sex as everyone else seems to be doing it. I guess it all comes down to the way they are brought up and the environment they are in. I hope I don't offend anyone with this as it is just my humble opinion, simply in the purpose of answering the question.

I believe the media is to blame, primarily. The media guides and influences the families.

This has caused the breakdown of the family unit which results in kids getting into trouble and focused on things they would never have focused upon in years past.

Teenagers have always been highly focused on sex. It's the time of their lives where the hormones are strong, but in today's liberalized society, sex has become mainstream acceptable and this blended with teenagers existing sexual focus is a recipe for disaster.

In the United States, the average life expectancy is somewhere in the mid-seventies. Assuming (for legal reasons) that people begin having sex at 18 and end their sex lives sometime before 75 (let's face it, the idea of a couple of 78 year-olds gettin' busy leaves one a little squeemish), then that leaves about 57 years of "sexy-time" (my apologies to Borat).

Figuring an average of twice per week (which is undoubtably generous), then most Americans can expect to have sex about 5,928 times.

This just seems like a low number to me. Personally, I'd like to make it to about 10,000 times before I die. That really makes me wonder how Wilt Chamberlain had sex with 20,000 women as he claimed. Me thinks there may have been a threesome or foursome in there somewhere. When did he have time to practice his jump-shots?

Anyway, what if I die next week? I'd better get going, then, huh?!!

I know I got a bit off-topic, but, to answer your question, if you do it safely, respectfully, and legally, then why not have sex? Can you think of anything more fun?

Good Luck!

US teens are no more sexually active then teens in other developed countries like the European Nations, Canada and Japan. US teens are ignorant about sex. They have less access to good information about STD and contraception then young people in the rest of the developed world.

Since some nations the average age of marriage is 12-13 id have to disagree that US teens are the most sexually active. But id say the sexuality of US youth is in part that it isnt demonized by the media (the opposite in fact) We dont have any strict religious standards. And we tend to not kill our daughters if they lose their virginity before we can marry them off. Also we are all really sexy and wealthy with all our teeth firmly intact. with large breasts and HUGE penis one and all!
