divorce granted in portsmouth

Don't contact the registry office in Portsmouth, it has nothing to do with them. Call the County Court and ask to speak to the Family Team. If you have the court reference number that will help a lot. It will start with P for Portsmouth - I don't know it but it's likely to be PO or PM, something like that. Then it will have a reference to the year, so PO07 then a D for divorce and a further four digits, so the whole thing could look like: PM07D1001. The last four digits would mean it was the 1001st divorce to be filed that year in that court.

If you don't have that number, give the names of the parties and roughly when the divorce would have been. If it's your divorce and you've never received a copy of the certificate of decree absolute, the clerk will probably not charge you, but if you've lost your copy you may be charged £1 per copy.

You can write them a letter enclosing a cheque if you prefer, or attend in person.

To get a divorce certificate you need to contact the County Court that issued the divorce (find the County Court in Portsmouth) or you can get a copy from the Principal Registry of the
Family Division at the High Court in London (Also known as the Royal Courts of Justice.) For the copy to be legal it needs to have a coloured court stamp on it (red or blue) which they will stamp for you when you get the copy. Please do not contact the registry office in your local area, registry offices are for births, deaths and marriages only. Hope this is useful!

Hi, You will have to get in touch with Portsmouth Registry Office, they should be able to help you. Dont forget you will need I.D. because everything now is data protected and your I.D. will have to have a picture of you on it. e.g. Passport, valid Driving Licence. i would also take a recent household bill with you.

a copy of your divorce or someone else's?

if yours, you should have received one via mail from the judge within 2 weeks from the decree was signed. you can get another, small fee of course, from the court records office.

if someone else's, fat chance on getting one, thats privileged stuff and protected by the courts.
